Kamala Harris is not Asian

Reportedly many Indians supported her in the election because she is Indian. I had to look it up because she never mentioned it, but apparently, her dad is black and her mom Indian. But she never mentions her Indian heritage, never says she is Asian. And it isn’t that she doesn’t talk about race. She frequently says she is black.
I guess the Indians supported her because of the natural instinct to supports one’s own. They think elevating one of their own to a position of power will help them. Well, it has been months since she has been elected, a few weeks since she has been vice president, and she hasn’t done anything for Asians. And with the most recent update I realized she doesn’t plan on doing anything for Asians, because, as I noted, she isn’t Asian.
In response to the spate of crimes against Asians in big cities in the US (people shoving them to their deaths), she responded: “Hate crimes and violence against Asian Americans and Asian immigrants have skyrocketed during the pandemic. That’s why our Administration has taken action to address these xenophobic attacks. We must commit ourselves to combating racism and discrimination.”
There. She proves it. She validates these perpetrators by calling the victims “foreign”, because apparently “Asians” are from foreign countries. I wonder if she would call blacks as being from foreign countries.
And, of course, she wouldn’t because she is simply a politician, but one as idealistic as a child might hope she would stand up for the victims by identifying as one of them. Who knows, it might help, as the famous statement “ich bin ein Berliner” illustrated the support of JFK and the US for West Germany. And, more recently, “we are all Parisians”, meaning we’re all in this together.
Kamala Harris doesn’t understand any of that. Does she know there has been violence against Asians not just since the pandemic, but from before? Does she know that the Japanese were put in internment camps during War World II, not even a century ago? What about the Koreans during the LA riots, when they were left to fend themselves as the police didn’t bother protecting them?
I guess I’ll help her by making some comparisons to a race she does know. “Black” (because she isn’t African-American in the same way many others in the USA are, but rather Caribbean-American). Was it just this past year that blacks have been discriminated against? Mistreated by police? Or was it before that? Has it been many years that this discrimination has been happening or just the past few years? Just because we have had more publicity on it this past year does that imply in past years with no reports there have been no incidents?
I read the memorandum the White House put out on January 26 condemning whatever against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States, but it seems to be missing an important point. Pointing out the Asians are Americans, and not different. Simply, I would ask Kamala Harris whether her saying “Asian Americans and Asians” would mean she also speaks about blacks as “black Americans and blacks.” How ridiculous does that sound?
So maybe it is not technically true Kamala Harris is not Asian. Her mom was from India, and of Indian descent. But she sure isn’t Asian in the sense she cares about Asian people. She doesn’t care, because that isn’t the way she is treated. As an Asian.
